The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 23 year old Serb and the Ecuadorean, eight years his senior.

Kecmanovic Gets First Round Bye

Kecmanovic was given a first round bye, courtesy of his seeding.

However, he will be glad to be back on American soil, and already looking forward to next month’s two Masters’ events in Indian Wells and Miami, which he will have fond memories of from last year, having reached the quarter-finals of both.

He has enjoyed a mixed start the season so far, reaching the second round in Adelaide the first time round, and the quarter-finals the following week, before losing to Thanasi Kokkinakis.

The Serb would have had high hopes at the Australian Open, having reached the fourth round last year, but performed poorly in his first round match with Nicolas Jarry of Chile, and slumped to a straight sets defeat.

In his one match since then, playing for Serbia in the Davis Cup, he beat his Norwegian opponent easily.

Gomez Battles Past Canadian Qualifier

Gomez is appearing in his first ATP senior event of the season, after his attempt to qualify for the Australian Open ended in failure.

Since then he played in a Challenger event in the US where he was the number one seed, and reached the semi-finals.

He was given a kind first round draw in Dallas, pitted against the Canadian qualifier, Gabriel Diallo, but was made to work very hard before finally beating a man ranked 109 places below him in the world.

All that was in the future, though, when one break was enough to earn the Ecuadorean the first set.

And when Diallo was broken again early in the second set, the South American was relishing the prospect of an easy victory.

But serving for the match, he allowed himself to be broken, and it was the Canadian who won the subsequent tie-break.

The third set was dominated by serve to the extent that neither man could earn a break point, and it came down to another tie-break to decide the outcome of the match.

Unfortunately for Diallo, he blinked first, dropped his serve and then again, allowing Gomez finally to serve out.

Kec,manovic v Gomez Prediction and Tip

Given how much difficulty Gomez had in beating the Canadian qualifier, it is difficult to make a case for him against the Serb, who has shown in the past that he likes playing in America, especially at this time of year.
