Belinda Bencic v Shelby Rogers Head to Head
This is a rivalry that began on the ITF circuit and has seen two matches at that level, one in the qualifiers of a WTA event and two at the highest level. Of those five, Bencic has won four times and is on a four-match winning streak against Rogers.
The last time they met was at the Cincinnati Open of 2021 where Bencic was a 7-6 (1), 6-1 winner.

Bencic Tames Kostyuk in Second Round
After getting herself an opening round bye, it was easy pickings for Bencic in the second round as she rounded off a straight-set win over Marta Kostyuk.
Bencic won 6-4, 7-5 in an hour and 36 minutes to enter the quarterfinal following a solid showing over the previous two competitions.
Having won the title at the Adelaide International 2 and then getting as far as the fourth round at the Australian Open where she went down to the eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka, Bencic eased through the first set with one break of serve.
She faced no break-points in the opening set.
In the second, Bencic looked to be headed to an easy win when she broke Kostyuk early but then dropped her serve twice to see her opponent serving for the set at 5-3. Bencic broke back and then again to come through for her ninth win of the season to go with two defeats.

Rogers Continues Shock Run
Before coming into this tournament, Rogers had won just one main draw match this season and that had come at the Australian Open against the little-known, 246th-ranked Arianne Hartono.
Here in Abu Dhabi, Rogers has already sent out two qualifiers and then shocked two opponents who were both favourites to win the encounter.
After having needed three sets to get past Leylah Fernandez, Rogers stunned the former world number two Anett Kontaveit in the second round. She won 4-6, 6-3, 4-1 with Kontaveit retiring from the match because of lower back issues.
Kontaveit needed a medical break in the final set and while she did return to play a couple more games, she looked uncomfortable and called it quits after five games.
Rogers will now hope to make it three wins in a row for the first time since the San Jose Open last August where she had made the final.
