Jannik Sinner v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head

Sinner and Sonego will be facing off for the first time in their respective careers.

Sinner Gets a Walkover from Fucsovics

Sinner would be the first to admit he hasn’t quite had the kind of start he would have liked this season.

Sure he made the quarterfinal at the Auckland Open and the fourth round at the Australian Open, eventually losing to the finalists at each of those two tournaments but he would have liked to do a lot better.

And even the matches Sinner did win, it wasn’t straightforward.

Like in the third round at the Australian Open, he faced Fucsovics and was two sets down before mounting a fightback that took him home. He also had his challenges in overcoming Kyle Edmund at the Adelaide International.

It’s been straightforward here so far, with a bye in the first round and a walkover from Fucsovics in the second. Can he ease through to the semifinal with a straightforward win?

Sonego Gets Past Krajinovic

For the first time since his performance at the Metz Open in September last year, Sonego finally managed to win back to back matches in a tournament to make it to the last eight.

Sonego, who had gone past Benjamin Bonzi in the first round of this tournament, registered a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Filip Krajinovic in the second to seal his quarterfinal berth next to Sinner.

In a match lasting an hour and 22 minutes, Sonego blasted six aces and won 89% of his first serve points to clinch the win. He did not face a single break-point in a clinical performance that saw him get past Krajinovic’s serve on three occasions.

Things might not be as straightforward against Sinner but Sonego will know his opponent hasn’t played in more than two weeks while he himself has had a couple of strong wins. Can he take advantage of this?

Sinner v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Sinner starts off a 2/7 favourite and while we are backing him to win this, it could be brutal in at least one of the sets. A tough victory for the world number 17.
