Elena Rybakina v Beatriz Haddad Maia Head to Head

No previous matches have been played between the 10th-ranked Rybakina and the world number 14 Haddad Maia.

Rybakina Routs Pliskova

Now Karolina Pliskova was the number one player not so long ago and has given many an opponent s surprise thanks to her strong serving. She is currently ranked 20th in the world and it looked like she could give Rybakina a run for her money in their second round match.

Nothing of that sort happened with Rybakina extending her purple patch to squeeze out a 6-4, 6-2 win in a mere 70 minutes in the second round.

Rybakina, who had earned a first round bye, withstood eight aces and a winning first serve of 71% from Pliskova to blow her opponent’s second serve apart. The Kazakh broke her opponent three times in the match while holding her own serve every single time to seal off the win.

It was Rybakina’s ability to go after Pliskova’s second serve that earned her 12 of the 15 points on it and ensured her win.

Things will get tougher here as she faces the Brazilian Haddad Maia, who could do with a better rhythm come the quarterfinals.

Haddad Maia Fumbles Past Putintseva

It was a match she should have won with ease the manner in which she had started out. Instead, Haddad Maia frittered away three match-points in the second set before clinching it in three against Yulia Putintseva.

What should have been a routine hour and a half victory for Haddad Maia took her three hours and 16 minutes before she wrapped up her place in the quarterfinals, scraping past Putintseva 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4).

There had been indications it could turn out to be a topsy-turvy encounter when Haddad Maia herself had to come back from being 4-2 down in the opening set to win four games in a row.

And then she went 3-1 ahead in the second, holding on easily throughout the rest of the set before getting the opportunity to serve it out at 5-4. She missed on three match-points, got broken, broke again before failing to serve out the match for the second time.

In the end, it took her a third set tie-breaker to make it through and exhaustion could become a factor coming into this quarterfinal.

Rybakina v Haddad Maia Prediction and Tip

Rybakina is 1/3 to win this and while we do think she is a favourite those are very short odds for the kind of opponent she is up against. Expect a keen tussle.
