Dalma Galfi v Marketa Vondrousova
Marketa Vondrousova has been pretty on fire since returning from injury as her play has been sensational. She was very good when she got injured and stopped playing and returning basically looks like as if she never stopped playing in the first place.
She’s 6-2 on the year and 2-0 so far at this event with both wins being very strong. She lost only six games in R1 and only two games in R2 and I see that trend continuing. Galfi is playing the best indoor event of her career but that’s saying a lot.
It’s saying that she’s generally not that good in these conditions and that’s the truth. Vondrousova is not only the superior player talent-wise but she’s also far better indoors.
With all of that, I simply can’t see her failing here. She’s never played Galfi and that’s not ideal but I expect her to impose her will pretty early and cruise from there.

Belinda Bencic v Shelby Rogers
A very interesting matchup awaits us in Abu Dhabi as Belinda Bencic is set to take on Shelby Rogers. Both of these players have played really well at the event so far as Bencic has a win over Marta Kostyuk and Shelby Rogers has a win over Leylah Fernandez.
Bencic is 10-2 so far this year with Shelby Rogers not far behind at 8-4. Both are hard-court specialists and there is a lot of similarity between them. Rogers has been striking the ball really well so far producing some incredible winners from all around the court.
Bencic is naturally very aggressive and deals well with a lot of different playstyles. If somebody could handle Rogers when she’s playing this well then it’s Bencic. Still, she also showed some vulnerabilities against Marta Kostyuk. She wasn’t able to take advantage of that but Rogers can.
I expect to see three sets here as they’re both playing too well for it to be an easy win for either player. Bencic won in the end though.

Veronika Kudermetova v Liudmila Samsonova
A proper Russian affair awaits us in Abu Dhabi as Kudermetova takes on Samsonova. It’s a brilliant matchup on paper because they both play an exciting type of tennis that will leave fans glued to their seats. Smasonova loves to attack and has very strong groundstrokes with a powerful serve.
Kudermetova is similar but she’s far more steady from the baseline albeit with less power. She’s also the one that had a better year so far with a 7-3 record overall compared to 4-3 by Samsonova.
The H2H also favours her as she won two of the three matches they played. Only one of those matches was played on hard courts and Kudermetova won that too. She’s favoured to win this one as she’s simply more steady overall. In a close matchup like this it will probably matter.
We do expect this match to hit the over on the games but we’ll opt for the Kudermetova match win play. Both are valid.
