Adrian Mannarino v Wu Yibing Head to Head

Mannarino and Yibing have never played each other before this.

Mannarino Makes Short Work of Thompson

For the second match in a row, Mannarino was pushed into a tie-breaker in one of the sets but cruised to a straight-set victory in an otherwise comfortable outing.

After sending Steve Johnson out in the first round, Mannarino carved out a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win over Jordan Thompson in a second round match lasting an hour and 47 minutes.

Mannarino’s strong serving saw him win a whopping 83% of the first serve points and the only time he was broken was in the first set when he led 5-1. He clinched the opening set off his fifth set point.

In the second, neither player gave the other too many chances – both had one break-point chance they missed out – but once it got into the tie-breaker, Mannarino ran away with it.

This is the first time this season that Mannarino has won successive matches. The last occasion on which he won three in a row also came in the USA, at the Winston-Salem Open last August. Can he repeat that feat here?

Yibing Shocks Shapovalov

Before featuring in this tournament, Yibing had won just three matches at the highest level. All of a sudden, the world number 97 has added two more victories to his kitty, not to mention one against the world number 27 Denis Shapovalov.

The Canadian had gone into their second round match as a 2/5 favourite but Yibing stood tall and clinched a 7-6 (1), 6-4 victory over his opponent.

Yibing was on court for an hour and 35 minutes, enduring eight aces from Shapovalov but where he scored over the more illustrious player on the other side of the net was with his second serve.

The world number 97 won 64% of his second serves, while Shapovalov managed only 44%.

With that kind of a victory under his belt, Yibing would believe he has a chance to usurp the world number 63 as well.

Mannarino v Yibing Prediction and Tip

At 1/1, it could be a tempting to go with Yibing for this one, especially given how well he’s playing these days. Could get close, even if it’s a two-setter.
