Rune did make a slow start to his second round match against Marc-Andrea Huesler but once he had brushed his rustiness aside, he settled down quickly and registered a straight-set win.
The Danish number one, who had an opening round bye, registered a 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory over Huesler to make it to the last eight.
Following on from his fourth round exit at the Australian Open and a couple of easy wins over Indians Sumit Nagal and Yuki Bhambri in the Davis Cup, Rune was on court for a shade over an hour and a half for his 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over his Swiss opponent.
Hammering seven aces and winning 79% of his points on serve, Rune faced just two break-points but his serve was never broken in the encounter. In response he got the better of his opponent’s serve twice – both in the second set – to clinch the victory.
Rune could get even better here in the quarterfinal.

Barrere Continues to Grow
He is currently ranked 75th in the world, which is Barrere’s career-high ranking. By the time this tournament has ended and irrespective of the result of this match, Barrere can be expected to rise even further on the ATP charts.
Because he has already defeated two potentially tricky players on their day in the first two rounds to seal his quarterfinal meeting with Rune, results that could push him into the top 70.
In the first round, Barrere edged past Alexander Bublik despite frittering away three match-points in the second set and another three in the third. On the other hand, his second round win over Nikoloz Basilashvili wasn’t that heart-stopping as the Frenchman carved out a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
In doing so, Barrere won his seventh successive match overall, having entered this competition on the back of a title win at the Quimper Challenger.
