Holger Rune v Maxime Cressy Head to Head

Rune has a 3-0 record against Cressy from all levels. He won twice at the Challenger level and also their first tour-level meeting at the Australian Open this year. What’s more, the Dane is yet to lose a set against the American.

Rune Eyes Fifth Consecutive Indoor Final

Holger Rune knocked out Gregoire Barrere in the quarterfinal on Friday to reach another indoor semifinal.

Rune had a 21-4 record on indoor surfaces last year and finished the season by reaching four consecutive indoor finals. He won the Paris Masters and the Stockholm Open titles and finished runner-up in Spfia and basel during an extraordinary run last season.

Continuing his dominance in indoor courts this year, the top seed finds himself in the final four of his first tournament on the surface.

Rune had beaten Marc-Andrea Huesler 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in the second round and then ousted the Frenchman in two tiebreaks on Friday.

In a one-hour-and-53-minute contest, Rune came back from a break down in the opening set before dominating the tiebreak. The second set saw both players put up a fine service display. Rune was in a bit of trouble in the  third game, when he had to save two break points to keep the set on serve. The tiebreak was a close one as well, but eventually the world no. 9 ended the world no. 75’s run.

Rune is now 7-2 in 2023. After losing his opening round match in Adelaide, he made it to the Round of 16 at the Australian Open and then won both his singles matches against India at the Davis Cup.

He is looked in good touch in Montpellier, can he reach a fifth consecutive indoor final with a wi on Saturday?

Cressy Powers Past Coric

Maxime Cressy served 18 aces to oust Borna Coric in the quarterfinal on Friday.

In a dominant performance the world no. 51 won 91% points on the back of his first delivery. He also saved all six break points that he faced against the Croatian while converting the only one that he held to win 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 and move into his first semifinal of the season.

The 25-year-old American had a a breakthrough season last year, when he reached three finals and won his maiden title in Newport.

He didn’t have a great start in 2023, winning just one match in the first two tournaments, but has won three in a row in Montpellier this week and is yet to drop a set.

Cressy served 11 aces during a 6-3, 6-2 win over Switzerland’s Antoine Bellier in the first round and then served 15 aces during a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Emil Ruusuvuori in the round of 16.

Interestingly, he has not been broken in the tournament so far, saving three break points in the first match, one in the second and six in the quarterfinal. Can he keep that record intact in the semifinal? It will be an uphill task as he comes up against the red-hot Rune.

Rune v Cressy Prediction and Tip

Rune is a player to beat on indoor surfaces. The top seed is also in excellent form and has won all his previous matches against Cressy, that too without dropping a set. So Rune is the overwhelming favourite in this contest. Expect the 19-year-old to win and reach his sixth ATP final.
