Marc-Andrea Huesler v Gijs Brouwer Head to Head

Coming off a successful 2022 campaign, Marc-Andrea Huesler is off to a decent start in 2023. He has particularly been effective in team events. First he won both his singles matches at the United Cup and then played a pivotal role in Switzerland’s win over Germany at the Davis Cup.

The world no. 49 defeated Oscar Otte in three sets and then stunned Alexander Zverev in the reverse singles as Switzerland won the tie 3-2.

Huesler had a brilliant run last year that saw him break into the top 100 for the first time. He kept climbing the rankings and reached a career-high of 49 last week.

Huesler’s best last year came at the Sofia Open, where he stunned Holger Rune to win his maiden ATP title.

He also won two Challenger titles last year, taking his career tally to five at that level.

Apart from the team events, Huesler also participated at adelaide-2, Australian Open and Montpellier Open. While he reached the second round in Adelaide-2 and Montpellier, he as knocked out in the first round at the Australian Open.

He will be hoping to get off to a wining start in Rotterdam and then build from there.

Brouwer Receives a Wild Card

World no. 158 Gijs Brouwer is relatively new at the tour level. The Dutch made his tour-level debut last year and is 3-2 overall in his career.

He has been handed a wild card for this year’s Rotterdam Open, where he will be playing his first tour-level match of the season.

Brouwer, who reached his maiden Challenger Tour final last year in Tunis, has not got off to a good start in 2023. Although he has only featured in lower level tournaments, he has registered just one win so far.

Brouwer’s only win this year came against Vasek Pospisil in the first round of the Quimper Challenger. He was beaten in the second round by Arthur Fils.

Brouwer lost in the first rounds in Canberra, Koblenz and Vilnius 2 Challenger tournaments and was also beaten in the first qualifying round of the Australian Open.

Huesler v Brouwer Prediction and Tip

Form and experience both favour Huesler in this contest. The Swiss should ease past the Dutchman in the opening round.
