Petra Martic v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and the scoreline reads 1-1. Martic won on the grass of Wimbledon in 2019 while Potapova made it 1-1 on the clay of Istanbul last year.

Potapova Makes it Four Three-Setters in a Row

She was nearly a whopping 3/1 to win her semifinal against Marketa Vondrousova but that did not bother Potapova too much as she clinched her first WTA tournament since July 2022 on Saturday.

Potapova shrugged off the loss of the second set to a tie-breaker to win 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-3 in two hours and 15 minutes and seal her place in the title-decider.

Broken once in each of the three sets, Potapova retaliated with six breaks of serves in the match from the 15 opportunities she got.

It was her better serving that helped her through this with Potapova winning 62% and 59% of her first and second serve points in the match. As compared to that, Vondrousova had corresponding figures of 55% and 46% respectively.

This win follows follows victories over Lucia Bronzetti, Jule Niemeier and Anna-Lena Friedsam, all of which saw Potapova drop a set.

Martic Stuns Sakkari

Not only did Martic overcame the 2/5 favourite Maria Sakkari in her semifinal, she did that from being a set down and made it to her first final on the WTA tour since July 2022, much like Potapova.

Martic, who had earlier sent out Clara Tauson in the quarterfinal, needed two hours and 33 minutes to go past the world number seven in their last-four encounter.

Slamming eight aces and improving her first serve stats over the second and third sets, Martic shrugged off Sakkari’s hold on her as she edged through to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over her opponent.

Such was Martic’s dominance in the final set she lost just seven points on her serve and did not face a single break-point.

This follows a very slow start to the season for Martic who had lost four of the seven matches she featured in before the start of this tournament. That had included a defeat to Sakkari at the United Cup, a result she overturned here.

Martic v Potapova Prediction and Tip

Nothing to choose between these two, almost surprise finalists. Potapova’s fighting capabilities give her a slight edge here.
