Yoshihito Nishioka had a really sudden rise in the second half of 2022 playing some amazing tennis and winning a trophy even. The Japanese player always had the potential to do some great things in tennis and he finally started doing it last year.
This year has been pretty much more of the same as he continues to play the same way. There is no drop-off and a 7-2 start to the year shows just that. He’s really strong from the baseline with a really solid approach and great movement around the court making it really hard to outplay him.
Delray Beach is familiar to him as he played here before and he actually lost to Otte at this event last year. The motivation to pay him back for that should be high but he’s been playing far better than the German for months now.
I would be pretty surprised if this is anything but a comfortable Nishioka loss as he’s proven that North American hard courts fit his style really well.

Otte Keeps Struggling
Oscar Otte is a very fascinating player as he has a really interesting approach to tennis. He plays very aggressively never backing down and his matches are quite exciting and snappy. He generally has a lot of winners in his game but an equal number of errors and that’s a problem.
There isn’t much thinking in his game and that makes him a very big threat when his tennis is clicking but it’s not been clicking for a while. He’s only 2-5 so far this year and there were some pretty bad losses in there.
Delray Beach was pretty decent last year as he made it to the second round before losing to Cameron Norrie in straight sets.
The opponent this time around is a familiar face, one he’s beaten before but also one that showed a far better level then he did in the past several months. He will need to find a way to hit Nishioka off the court if he hopes to win the match.

I’m sure if Otte on his best day could beat this version of Nishioka but I’m pretty confident that he can’t beat him with the level he has right now.
