Coric Off to a 5-3 Start

World no. 23 Borna Coric is off to a 5-3 start in 2023. Four of the Croatian’s five wins have come in team events.

The 26-year-old finished with a 2-1 record at the United Cup and won both his singles matches during the Davis Cup tie against Austria. His most recent win came in the opening round in Montpellier against Arthur Rinderknech. But he lost in the second round to Maxime Cressy.

Coric, who struggled with form, injury and a shoulder surgery for close to two years, was back in form last year.

He won his maiden Masters title in Cincinnati in 2022, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. The Croatian had begun the tournament as the world no. 152 but the title success lifted him into the top 30.

It was his first final in two years and a first title since 2018.

He will be playing in Rotterdam for the fourth time. While he couldn’t go past the second round in 2016 and 2017, he went on to reach the semifinal in his last appearance in 2021. Can he match or better that performance this year?

Van de Zandschulp Is 3-2 in 2023

Botic Van de Zandschulp has played in two tournaments this season. The first was the Maharashtra Open where he reached the semifinal and the second was the Australian Open, where the world no. 35 won the first round match against Ilya Ivashka but fell to Tallon Griekspoor in the second round.

The Dutchman has made two previous appearances in Rotterdam. He was knocked out in the opening round two years ago, while he won the first round match last year, before going down in the second round.

The 27-year-old had reached his first-ever ATP final in Munich last year, but he was forced to retire after just seven games in the contest against Holger Rune.

In addition, he was also a two-time semifinalist and a two-time quarterfinalist during the 38-29 season.

A U.S. Open quarterfinalist in 2021, Van de Zandschulp had peaked to a career-high of no. 22 last year. He has, however, fallen a few places to his current ranking of no. 35. But will look to climb back the rankings. Can he begin the climb back in Rotterdam?

Coric v Van de Zandschulp Prediction and Tip

A resurgent Coric showed good form last year and also looked good in his recent matches at the Davis Cup, where he even defeated Dominic Thiem in straight sets. Van de Zandschulp too has been in good touch, but he hasn’t played in almost a month. Also, Coric is in slightly better form and will look to begin with a win.
