Federico Coria v Facundo Diaz Acosta Head to Head

Coria won their only meeting at a Challenger Tournament last year.

Coria In Brilliant Form

He was off to a 0-4 start at the tour level and was 1-5 from his first six matches across levels this year. But a switch to clay courts has changed the fortunes for the world no. 67.

Coria won the Concepcion Challenger and then carried that winning momentum to Cordoba, where he defeated Thiago Monteiro, Marco Cecchinato, Francisco Cerundolo and Albert Ramos Vinolas en route the final, where he was scheduled to meet Sebastian Baez on Sunday.

This is just the second time that Coria has reached an ATP final. His first also came on clay in Batsad in 2021, when he went down to Casper Ruud in the final.

The 30-year-old has a 2-2 record in Buenos Aires. While he lost the opener on his debut in 2021, he made it to the quarterfinals last year, before falling to Ruud.

A clay court specialist, Coria has played very little tennis outside his favourite surface and is 9-0 on clay in 2023 (including the Challenger level). Can he win the Cordoba Open and come to Buenos Aires with a 10-0 record?

Acosta Looking to Make an Impression

World no. 188 Facundo Díaz Acosta had also looked good at the Concepcion Challenger, reaching the semifinals with wins over Joao Lucas Reis Da Silva, Juan Pablo Varillas and Juan Bautista Torres respectively but he could not finish the semifinal match against Timofey Skatov, having been forced to withdraw while trailing 5-7, 1-1.

The 22-year-old has featured in three Challenger finals so far in his career and all of them came last year. He lost two of them but won his maiden title at that level in Coquimbo, Chile.

He has a 3-3 record in ITF World Tour finals.

The Argentine also featured in Noumea Challenger on hard court earlier this year, reaching the last eight stage of that tournament and he went down in the second qualifying round at the Australian Open.

He has a 0-2 career record at the tour level. Can he make an impression in Buenos Aires?

Coria v Acosta Prediction and Tip

Coria is the favourite to win this contest. He is a player in red-hot form and also far more experienced than Acosta. He should win this contest in straight sets.
