Jannik Sinner v Benjamin Bonzi Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two – at the 2020 French Open and the 2022 Indian Wells Open – and Sinner has won them both.

Sinner Makes Montpellier Final

At the time of writing, Sinner is on the verge of playing his eighth final on the ATP circuit as he takes on Maxime Cressy in the Montpellier Open. He is in that kind of form again after having fallen a tad on the rankings chart.

Sinner hasn’t played a lot of tennis too in the week preceding the Rotterdam Open, with a first round bye and a second round walkover meaning he enters this tournament on the back of just three matches.

Which means there isn’t a lot of adjustment that Sinner will need to make coming into his opener.

For someone with an over record of 65-24 indoors and 43-19 on the same surface at the highest level, it seems very likely he won’t have much of an issue in this encounter here.

Bonzi Falls to Sonego at Montpellier

Bonzi was quick off the blocks this season when he featured at the Pune Open where he reached the final but went down to Tallon Griekspoor.

Unfortunately for the Frenchman he fell in the first round of the Adelaide International 2, having found it difficult to recover from the long flight between India and Australia and having to play with barely any break between those two tournaments.

He did not have any issues when he took to court at the Australian Open where Bonzi stunned Pablo Carreno Busta on his way to the third round.

From there on, however, Bonzi has lost successive matches – in the Davis Cup and the first round of the Montpellier Open. A loss to Lorenzo Sonego at Montpellier was a bit of a surprise, more so because of the manner in which the Frenchman lost, going down in straight sets.

Can he overcome Sinner in this one?

Sinner v Bonzi Prediction and Tip

Sinner is a 1/3 favourite here and he should have no difficulties getting past Bonzi, winning in straight sets and moving into the second round.
