Paula Badosa v Beatriz Haddad Maia Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and it came earlier this year at the Adelaide International 2. Badosa had won that quarterfinal round in straight sets.

Badosa Makes Her Return

Paula Badosa missed out on the Australian Open after suffering a thigh injury at a tune-up tournament in Adelaide in the lead-up to the season’s first major.

The Spaniard, who had won four matches in a row to kick-start the year, bowed out of the Adelaide International 2 after failing to take to court for her semifinal against Daria Kasatkina because of that injury.

Expected to make her return to the court at the Abu Dhabi Open last week, Badosa then opted out of the competition because of a viral illness.

The former world number two will hope she can kick-start her resumption with a solid performance but up against her is a tricky opponent, one who has risen to 12th in the world after her performance at Abu Dhabi last week.

Haddad Maia Makes Abu Dhabi Semifinal

Haddad Maia is coming off her best ever season in her career, with two titles on grass punctuating her performances. And while she hasn’t quite begun the year on a similar, title-winning note, she has done enough to help her rise to 12th in the world.

Victories over Marie Bouzkova and Yulia Putintseva in Abu Dhabi last week put her on the path of the Australian Open 2023 runner-up Elena Rybakina in their quarterfinal match.

And the Brazilian number one fought back from being a set down to defeat Rybakina and march into the semis. There, while she lost easily to Belinda Bencic, her presence in the semifinal meant Haddad Maia had climbed up to 12th in the world – her career-best ranking.

Can she now usurp the former world number two who is returning from fitness concerns?

Badosa v Haddad Maia Prediction and Tip

Badosa’s recent fitness and illness concerns combined with Haddad Maia’s form make the latter a favourite. We can back Haddad Maia to win this and might not even need a third set to do that.
