Griekspoor In Excellent Touch

Tallon Griekspoor has been in terrific form in 2023 and he will be hoping to keep the momentum going at home at the Rotterdam Open.

The world no. 61 has a 3-5 record in the tournament and has never gone beyond the round of 16. But things could change this year as the 26-year-old brings a 7-1 record to Rotterdam.

Griekspoor began the season by winning his maiden ATP title in Pune. Having never reached a tour-level final before, the Dutchman defeated Benjamin Bonzi in the final of the Maharashtra Open. Then ranked no. 95, he defeated then no. 17 Marin Cilic and no. 59 Aslan Karatsev en route the final.

He carried that form to the Australian Open, where he reached the third round of a major for the first time in his career.

Griekspoor defeated Pavel Kotov and compatriot Botic Van de Zandschulp in the first two rounds but he was stopped from further progress by Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 32.

Griekspoor’s most recent win came at the Davis Cup when he beat Slovakia’s Lukas Klein in three sets.

Ymer Rallies Past Safiullin

Mikael Ymer rallied from a set down to beat Roman Safiullin in the second qualifying round at the Rotterdam Open on Sunday to reach the main draw for the first time.

Broken twice in the first set, the Swede made a remarkable recovery over the next two sets to win the contest 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Ymer had beaten Borna Gojo 7-5, 7-5 in the first qualifying round. Thanks to the two wins, he has now made it to the main draw in Rotterdam for the second time. Last year, he lost in the first round to Lorenzo Musetti.

Ranked no. 72nd in the world, Ymer is 14-5 from all his matches in 2023. Safiullin beat him in the season opener in Adelaide, but he went on to reach the quarterfinals in Adelaide-2.

He then made a first round exit from the Australian Open, before embarking on a run to the final at the Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve Challenger. David Goffin denied him a fifth Challenger title as he beat the Swede in straight sets.

Ymer then won both his Davis Cup matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina, but fell in the opening round in Montpellier. Having played so much of competitive tennis already in the lead-up to the Rotterdam Open, Ymer will come in well prepared and will give the local favourite a run for his money.

Griekspoor v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Both players have done well in the lead-up to this contest and both will be hungry to deliver in Rotterdam. So expect the contest to be a close affair. Griekspoor is the local hope, so he is familiar with the conditions and will also enjoy the crowd support. In addition, he has also done well at the highest level, picking his first ATP 250 title.

He will be a slight favourite against the Swede.
