Grigor Dimitrov v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Dimitrov leads 2-1. All three matches have come on outdoor hardcourt including the last of their meetings which was at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Dimitrov had won that match in straight sets.

Dimitrov 3-2 for the Season

After starting out with a win and a defeat at the United Cup, Dimitrov had a good start to the Australian Open this year.

The Bulgarian, who had made it past the second round at a major just once since January 2021, defeated his opponent in this match, Aslan Karatsev and Laslo Djere in straight sets to clinch a place in the third round in this tournament.

Unfortunately for Dimitrov, he ended up getting knocked out by Novak Djokovic in that match, a result every opponent of Djokovic has had to endure this season.

That being said, Dimitrov would be slightly peeved he couldn’t even take a set off Djokovic who was clearly struggling that day because of his fitness issues.

Dimitrov now returns to competitive tennis after a three-week break and it would be interesting to see how he goes in this encounter against a tricky opponent who has beaten him in the past.

Karatsev Qualifies after Three-Match Losing Streak

Karatsev seemed to have kick-started his season rather well earlier this year in Pune where he made the semifinals. Pablo Andujar, Tim van Rijthoven and Pedro Martinez had all been beaten in straight sets.

Tallon Griekspoor got the better of Karatsev in the semifinal but he looked to have rediscovered his lost mojo.

Unfortunately for Karatsev, that has been followed by successive defeats at the Australian Open and Montpellier, making it three losses in a row coming into this one. And having fallen to 95th in the world, Karatsev needed to then feature in the qualifiers to make it to the main draw.

That’s exactly what Karatsev did but against opponents who weren’t quite even the bookmakers’ favourites.

Against Dimitrov, Karatsev starts off a second favourite by considerate distance; can he turn things around?

Dimitrov v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

Dimitrov could be stretched on account of rustiness but he should still be able to come through and take his appointed place in the second round.
