Maria Sakkari v Qinwen Zheng

A brutal R1 clash between Sakkari and Zheng shows how strong the draw in Doha is. There is no easy match and this one will be an exciting affair between two very good players playing some solid tennis at the moment. They have similar scores so far this year as Sakkari has a 8-3 record and Zheng has a 8-4 record.

Both arguably play their best tennis on hard courts despite their clay records being impressive as well. Zheng is naturally more inclined to aggressive tennis than Sakkari who has a good mix of both offensive and defensive tendencies.

Their only clash happened last year at the Australian Open with Sakkari winning easily. Zheng improved dramatically since then and this one certainly won’t go the same way. It’s a trick matchup where Zheng will have a lot of control if her serve serves her well.

Sakkari will be coming off a disappointing outing in Linz so her confidence might be shaken up a bit. It’s a risky play but we think Zheng could get it done in three sets.

Tip: Zheng to win 2-1: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)

Paula Badosa v Beatriz Haddad Maia

A really fascinating matchup between Badosa and Haddad Maia could end up being the best match of the day in Doha and it’s a good list. It’s their second match this year as they played in Adelaide earlier this year. Badosa won that match but she’ll be coming back from injury in this one which means she’ll be a bit rusty.

Even that one in Adelaide was a really close one where the over hit comfortably and I do expect something similar. Haddad Maia should be in a better rhythm having played recently. She’s  7-3 on the year so her tennis has been solid but keep in mind that Badosa is 4-0.

It’s unclear whether this will be her first loss but don’t expect him to be an easy win for Haddad Maia. I do think she’s the right side to choose because Badosa will have to overcome some rust being only back and the matchup is not the easiest.

Haddad Maia hits the ball really cleanly which is where Badosa has most problems. She doesn’t do that well under pressure.

Tip: Haddad Maia to win: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)

Jelena Ostapenko v Madison Keys

There are no two players that embody the word ‘streaky’ better than these two. They are absolutely unplayable when they have their day but if it’s their bad day, they literally can’t win a point. It’s a nightmare to predict but we’re going to do our best.

Both have played really well to start the year. Keys is an impressive 7-1 so far but she hasn’t played since Australia and she generally overachieves down under.

Tip: Over 18.5 games: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
