Daria Kasatkina v Rebecca Marino Head to Head

Kasatkina 3-4 for the Season

While Kasatkina did make it all the way to the final of the Adelaide International 2 earlier this year, her overall record for the year is 3-4. And that’s been down to some very ordinary performances in 2023, especially for a player ranked eighth in the world.

Kasatkina began the year with a first round drubbing at the hands of Linda Noskova in Adelaide. She featured in the second Adelaide tournament, won a couple of rounds, got a walkover in the semifinal and then lost to Bencic in the final.

Those wins, against Petra Kvitova and Barbora Krejcikova, should have given her the boost one needs early in the season but it hasn’t helped Kasatkina too much.

At the Australian Open she was a 1/8 favourite to overcome Viktoria Gracheva in her opener but lost 6-1, 6-1.

A win over Jil Teichmann kick-started her Abu Dhabi challenge last week but Qinwen Zheng got the better of her very soon, leaving her in a lurch as far as her results are concerned.

Can she turn things around here?

Marino’s Won Just One Main Draw Match This Season

Getting direct entries into the first three tournaments she featured in this season, Marino managed to win just one match across them. That came at the Auckland Open where she defeated Dalma Galfi to move into the second.

From that point onward, she has lost four main draw matches in a row, including an opening loss at the Australian Open to Lin Zhu.

Needing to qualify for the Abu Dhabi Open last week, Marino then fell to Qinwen Zheng in the first round there too but that hasn’t deterred her confidence one bit.

Here, Marino needed to make it through three qualifying rounds to enter the main draw and has done that showing a lot of grit. Katrina Zavatska was edged out in the first, Aliaksandra Sasnovich was defeated in another three-setter in the second before Marino routed the 1/4 favourite Marie Bouzkova in the third to enter the main draw.

Can Marino now take advantage of Kasatkina’s ragged form for the season?

Kasatkina v Marino Prediction and Tip

While Kasatkina is an 8/15 favourite to win this, her form has been slightly dodgy. We expect Marino to grab at least one set.
