Cori Gauff v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

Returning in this tournament after having exited the Australian Open in the fourth round, Gauff had an opening round bye before being pitted against former Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova in round two.
Despite Gauff’s obvious talent it wasn’t expected to be a straightforward one for the American and that’s exactly how it went despite ending in two sets.
Gauff won 6-3, 7-6 (6) in a cagey, one hour and 26 minutes long battle that saw Kvitova get broken just once in the entire match. In fact, the whole match saw a total of two break-points – one apiece to each player – which was bit of a shock coming from a women’s tennis match.
The American broke Kvitova in the eighth game of the opening set, winning it to love before serving it out in the next game. In the second, Kvitova got the only break-point of the set in the fourth game but missed it.
That took the set to a tie-breaker where they were tied at 5-5 before Gauff won it off her second match-point.

Kudermetova Has No Worries against Kenin
After having stretched to the limits by Barbora Krejcikova in the first round, Kudermetova did not face too many issues in her second round win against Sofia Kenin.
Kudermetova, who has risen to 11th in the world and looking to break into the top 10 for the first time, registered a 6-2, 7-5 victory over her American opponent to set up this quarterfinal clash with Gauff.
In a match lasting an hour and 50 minutes, Kudermetova faced five break-points but saved each one of them while getting the better of Kenin’s serve on three occasions. She also slammed 13 aces and won 68% of her service points even as her opponent’s number was down to 57%.
While things went her way in the first set, Kudermetova did find it tougher to break Kenin’s serve in the second while she faced a break-point in each of the first, third and seventh games of the set. She saved them all and then finally got the better of her opponent’s serve in the 12th game as Kenin served to stay in the match.
Against Gauff, it could turn out to be a different kettle of fish though.
Gauff v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip
Gauff’s the favourite and despite the form that Kudermetova has shown we will have to go with the American winning this one. Might see a tie-breaker in one of the sets.
