Carlos Alcaraz v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 Australian Open where Alcaraz won in straight sets to march into the third round.

It took Alcaraz three sets and a shade over two hours in the end before he carved out a second round victory over Laslo Djere.

After getting a first round bye, Alcaraz had to quell a Djere fightback in the second set of his round of 16 encounter before coming through 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinal.

Alcaraz did face seven break-points in the match but saved all but one of them. Unfortunately for him, he failed to convert any of the eight break-points on offer in the second set, allowing Djere to take advantage of the only break of serve in it – it came in the 10th game.

With the score levelled at a set apiece, Alcaraz broke Djere in the very first game of the third set and then consolidated it with another one in the seventh. The end came soon after.

He now takes on another Serb for a place in the semifinal.

Lajovic Usurps Carabelli

Camilo Carabelli had won just one career match at the highest level coming into this tournament and he doubled that count with a straight-set win over Daniel Elahi Galan. Lajovic, however, put an end to that with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Carabelli.

Surprisingly, despite the one-sided nature of the win and despite not getting broken even once in the match, Lajovic needed an hour and 41 minutes to come through. Lajovic, on the other hand, got better of Carabelli’s serve on four occasions in the encounter.

Lajovic, who had earlier made the second round of the Cordoba Open last, qualified for this tournament with straight-set wins over Renzo Olivo and Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves.

The Serb then upset the Cordoba winner Sebastian Baez in the first round after coming back from being a set down before easing past Carabelli.

Can he now achieve the biggest result of his career?

Alcaraz v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz did show some rustiness but that shouldn’t be that much of an issue coming into this one. Expecting a straight-set win for the Spaniard.
