Carlos Alcaraz v Cameron Norrie Head to Head

Four previous matches have left Alcaraz winning three while Norrie has just clinched one. The Norrie win came in the Cincinnati Open 2022 competition where he needed three sets and two tie-breakers to get the Spaniard. It was their last meeting.

On clay they have faced off once – at the Madrid Masters last year – and Alcaraz had needed three sets too.

Alcaraz Ends Zapata Miralles’ Run

It had taken him some time to settle down in his opening win of this tournament in what was his first match of the season but Alcaraz looks to have got back his rhythm since then.

The world number two continued his winning run with a 6-2, 6-2 rout of Bernabe Zapata Miralles to enter the final of what has been his first tournament since returning from his fitness woes.

Zapata Miralles had earlier stunned Francisco Cerundolo in his quarterfinal but proved to be no match for Alcaraz who needed just an hour and 17 minutes of court-time. Winning 73% of his first serve points in the match, Alcaraz was off to a rampaging start as he broke his opponent twice in the fist set.

In the second, Alcaraz looked to be repeating the same script when he raced off to a 4-1 lead only to stumble a little as Zapata Miralles got the better of his serve in the sixth. There were no problems for Alcaraz though as he broke right back before serving it out to love to seal his ninth ATP tournament final.

Can Alcaraz win his seventh title?

Norrie Keeps Varillas at Bay

Juan Pablo Varillas had been having a good run in the tournament with wins over Dominic Thiem and Lorenzo Musetti helping him make the semifinal. And while he put up a strong fight against Norrie, there was only one way that match was headed in the end.

Norrie won 7-6 (5), 6-4 to clinch a place in the final in an hour and 54 minutes.

The pair traded breaks of serve in the first set and while Norrie had set-points in both, the 10th and the 12th game of the first set, Varillas was able to save all of them. It took the British number one a tie-breaker to pocket the first set.

In the second, Norrie went 2-0 up in double-quick time and from that point onward it was about consolidating the break which he did with aplomb. He did face a couple of break-points while serving for the match but saved both of them before clinching the place in the final.

Norrie has had a good couple of wins on clay in this tournament already including one against Tomas Etcheverry but things could get rather difficult against Alcaraz.

Alcaraz v Norrie Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz is 1/5 to win this and on clay it’s tough to see what weapons can Norrie bring to the encounter against the world number two. Expecting a straight-set win here.
