Dan Evans v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head

This will be the first career meeting between World No. 29 Dan Evans and World No. 52 Emil Ruusuvuori.

First Outing For Evans Since Davis Cup

Dan Evans will playing on the ATP Tour for the first time since the Davis Cup qualifiers at the start of February. The British one hander suffered an embarassing singles defeat to World No. 256 Nicolas Mejia of Colombia that nearly cost his country.

But he redeemed himself and scored an important doubles win alongside Neal Skupski as Great Britain safely progressed into the Davis Cup Finals.

The challenge of adjusting to the red clay shortly after playing the Australian Open proved to a major obstacle for Evans, who is one of the weakest players on the surface. And Colombia sensed that could be an opening of scoring a point in the tie.

Ultimately, depth within the British ranks along with Cameron Norrie’s versatility proved sufficient.

Evans is 3-5 for the season and doesn’t a have great record in Doha where he has never advanced beyond the Round of 16 in his career. Could that change this year?

Ruusuvuori Looks to Bounce Back

It’s not just Dan Evans who is struggling for wins in 2023, but  World No. 52 Emil Ruusuvuori has only tallied four wins in nine matches this year.

And two of those came at the Davis Cup qualifiers, which tells its not a pretty sight for the Finnish No. 1 who lost a huge chunk of points for his early exit in Pune (finalist last year).

Ruusuvuori has lost 12 spots from his career high ranking and currently sits just outside the top 50. However, he has been on the wrong end of  some narrow defeats this year, and perhaps composure in key  moments could have been a different story.

Last week for instance, Ruusuvuori served for the first set against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Rotterdam. But after getting broken, he lost his bearings and went on to lose 7-5 6-1.

Ruusuvuori is playing the Qatar Open for the second time. Last year he lost to Karen Khachanov in the second round.

Evans v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip

Neither player has set the world ablaze with their tennis this year which is a win is absolutely priceless. We like the Finn here, who has been a little bit more conciving in his play and focus.
