Karolina Muchova v Bernarda Pera Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came on the clay courts of the 2019 Prague Open and Muchova had won it in straight sets.

Muchova 4-3 for the Season

Muchova has featured in just three tournaments this season and gotten off to a start in each of those three. Unfortunately for her, except for the quarterfinal appearance in Auckland early in January, she hasn’t quite been able to convert those starts.

For instance, at the Australian Open Muchova defeated Lesia Tsurenko quite easily in her opener and had her chances against Danielle Collins in the second round. A final set tie-breaker put paid to her chances.

In Doha last week, Muchova crushed Martina Trevisan in the first round only to go down fighting – again in three sets – to Caroline Garcia in the second. She will hope she can turn that around but for that she will need to start things off with a win to emulate what she has done in each of these previous three tournaments.

This will only be Muchova’s second appearance in this tournament, having gotten knocked out in the first round in 2020 here. Good chance to better that record.

Pera Struggling after Solid Australian Open

It’s been a tale of two parts for Pera this season. The first consists of her performances in Hobart just before the Australian Open and then in the season’s first major itself with Pera managing to win four matches across those two competitions to make the quarterfinals and third round respectively.

It’s the other part that paints a sorry tale and one that Pera would like to scrape off immediately.

At the Auckland Open, Pera was sent packing by Viktoria Kuzmova in the very first round. More recently, she participated in the Linz Open where she lost to Dalma Galfi in the opener despite being a 1/5 favourite in the encounter.

And then at Doha last week, Pera was knocked out in the qualifiers itself.

The question is whether she can turn things around against a player who has been consistent especially against the lower-ranked players.

Muchova v Pera Prediction and Tip

Muchova is 2/5 to win this while Pera starts off at 2/1 to cause an upset. We will have to go with the former given her recent consistency and Pera’s up and down form.
