Botic van de Zandschulp v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head

Van de Zandschulp leads Ilya Ivashka 1-0, beating him in the first round of the 2023 Australian Open in four sets.

Dutchman Loses to Medvedev in Rotterdam

Botic van de Zandschulp was looking to impress on home soil last week being the country’s No. 1 and with a lot of expectation of potentially ending the 25-year wait for a Dutch champion in Rotterdam.

But he did not have the kindest of draws as he lost in the second round to Daniil Medvedev. He has now fallen in the second-round stage twice and in three main draw appearances.

Van de Zandschulp had started the year pretty positively. As the number two seed in Pune, he went on to reach the semifinal, losing to Benjamin Bonzi in a classic.

At the Australian Open, he defeated Ilya Ivashka, the man who will meet in Doha, but was soundly beaten by his compatriot Tallon Griekspoor in the second round. Griekspoor is threatening to overtake him in the coming months as the country’s top-ranked player unless van de Zandschulp can rediscover that winning touch.

He is currently 4-3 for the season and will be looking to win his first match on the hard courts of Doha.

Ivashka Winless in 2023

Ilya Ivashka will be touring his third continent in just under two months looking to get his first Tour-level win in almost five months.

Currently ranked 77th in the world, Ivashka last tasted a win at the Gijon Open last October when he defeated Feliciano Lopez in three sets. But he ended the year with four straight defeats.

The new year hasn’t brought Ivashka a great deal of good fortune. He lost in the first round of the Australian Open and quickly flew to the US where he took part in the two indoor hard court tournaments in February.

But the level of competition was very good in both Dallas and Delray. First, he lost a very close one to Jack Sock in Dallas, which in truth he should have won. And then was outplayed by J.J. Wolf in Delray where he lost in straight sets.

van de Zandschulp v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

Ivashka is scattering to the third continent seeking his first ATP win since October. And I’m not convinced he will get it in Doha. Van de Zandschulp has a lot more upside to his game and will be expected to come through here.
