Karolina Muchova v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 US Open where Muchova won their third round match in three sets with the final set going into a tie-breaker.

Muchova Blows Bernarda Away

In what was her fourth successive first round win in a tournament played this year, Muchova routed Bernarda Pera to move forward.

After making the second round at Auckland – where she went one better too – and at the Australian Open and WTA Doha as well, Muchova got her fourth win in a row here with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Pera.

The match lasted a mere hour and 15 minutes.

Muchova blasted eight aces and didn’t face a single break-point in the entire match, running away with the first set before the early-comers could even settle down in their seats. Pera put up some fight in the second but Muchova lost just seven points on her own serve in it while breaking the American once.

She will now hope she can repeat her Auckland Open showing by making it two wins in as many matches here.

Cirstea Comes Back from the Dead

There is no other way to describe Cirstea’s first round win over Beatriz Haddad Maia than coming back from the dead.

The Romanian, who had just one previous win all season, was two match-points down in the second set and then fell 4-1 down in the third before shocking her Brazilian opponent.

In a match that went on for three hours and 29 minutes, Cirstea won 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5 to find herself a spot in the second round where she will face Muchova.

Both players were broken four times in the encounter but it was the second set tie-breaker which paved the way for Cirstea. Having fallen 4-6 down in it, Cirstea rallied back to win three points in a row and then grabbed it 9-7 to level the encounter.

In the decider, the two exchanged breaks of serves before Haddad Maia ran off to another break and for some time it looked like it was going to be a decisive one. Not to be, as Cirstea broke two more times to carve out the victory.

Muchova v Cirstea Prediction and Tip

While Cirstea’s shock win is admittedly a morale-inducing one for her, it also took around three and a half hours to get her that victory. It might not be an easy recovery from that and we will have to back Muchova to win this.
