Diego Schwartzman v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

Schwartzman leads the head-to-head over Lajovic 3-1, winning their only meeting on red clay in Istanbul in 2017.

Turbulent Year for Schwartzman

Diego Schwartzman enters his fifth ATP tournament this year and is enduring the worst slump in his career.

With just one win in five matches, he is in further danger of tumbling down the rankings if he cannot sustain a title challenge this week.

Schwartzman put together a fine run during the Golden Swing last year, reaching back-to-back finals in Buenos Aires and Rio. An early exit in his home country last week has prompted a mini-crisis that needs addressing.

The 30-year-old acknowledged it’s not been a great start to the year and he has also been tending to his ailing father prior to playing in Buenos Aires.

He is currently hovering within the trenches of a top 40 spot, but if loses on Tuesday night, his place inside the top 50 could be in grave danger.

Lajovic Turns Around His Season

If Schwartzman is looking to turn his late-career slump, then he needs to look no further than Tuesday’s opponent Dusan Lajovic.

Lajovic dropped outside the top 100 in late November but resurrected his ranking and his season with a late-season flourish at the Mas Palomas Challenger.

He won his first title of any note since Umag in 2019, finishing the year ranked 80th in the rankings. And after an underwhelming start to his 2023 campaign, Lajovic has found his mojo on the red clay in South America.

The 32-year-old qualified for the ATP 250 event in Buenos Aires and went on to reach the quarterfinal, losing to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Schwartzman v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

This has been the worst start to a season for Diego Schwartzman that I can remember. And there has not been any chink of sunlight to suggest he will turn it around anytime soon.
