Hubert Hurkacz v Mikael Ymer Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one apiece.

The first, at the 2020 Auckland Open saw Hurkacz register a straight-set win before Ymer avenged that at the 2021 Australian Open with a five-set victory.

Hurkacz Struggles Past Reidi

Leandro Reidl has never been ranked better than 127th in the world and had gone into his second round match against Hurkacz as a 3/1 underdog to topple the world number 11.

He would have harbored those hopes after grabbing the first set but Hurkacz finally found his rhythm and subdued him in three. The Polish number one won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in a match that lasted an hour and 49 minutes.

To be fair to Hurkacz, he looked to have done most things right even in the first set except losing his serve in the very first game. From that point onward, he put enough pressure on the Reidi serve and garnered five break-points too but failed to break back, allowing his opponent to grab the set.

Hurkacz’s return to form saw him lose just four points on serve in the second set and while he did face a couple of break-points in the decider, it wasn’t enough to get past his serve.

This follows a second round exit at the Rotterdam Open last week following a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open for Hurkacz. Can he make it past Ymer here?

Ymer Gets a Walkover from Goffin

Before this tournament, Ymer had won just two main draw matches all season and both those wins had come at the Adelaide International 2. Having made it to the main draw there as a qualifier, Ymer had overcome Emil Ruusuvuori and Mackenzie McDonald to make it to the quarterfinals.

First round losses at Australian Open, Montpellier Open and Rotterdam Open had followed, sandwiching a finals appearance at a Challenger event in Belgium where he had gone down to David Goffin.

And it was Goffin again whom he was facing in the second round here following his 6-3, 7-6 (5) win over Radu Albot but his Belgian opponent opted to withdraw from the contest.

Goffin suffered a left knee injury following his first round win and that allowed Ymer another quarterfinal entry where he will now look to dislodge the world number 11.

Hurkacz v Ymer Prediction and Tip

While Ymer has shown he has the potential to upset some of the best in the world, it also must be quickly added he has struggled to get going this season. We will have to back Hurkacz to win this in two.
