Alcaraz Needs Time to Quell Lajovic

While Alcaraz did come through in straight sets against Dusan Lajovic in his quarterfinal match, he needed nearly two hours to make it through to the last four.

The top seed was broken three times in the match, his second serve continuing to remain a problem for the world number two. Alcaraz won just 52% of his second serve points, but that’s where he scored over his opponent too with Lajovic managing to win just 48% of those points.

It was Lajovic who drew first blood when he got past Alcaraz’s serve in the fifth game and went 4-2 ahead soon after. Alcaraz broke back in the eighth game to draw level and then again in the 10th to grab the opening set.

For the second time in a row, Lajovic broke first to take a 4-2 lead and while Alcaraz made it 4-4 again, the Serb got his second break of the set at 5-5. Unable to clinch the set off a set-point he got off his own serve, Lajovic was broken soon after before Alcaraz ran through the tie-breaker to love.

Can Alcaraz shrug off his underwhelming serving to get past his 139th-ranked opponent in this semifinal?

Jarry Makes it Five Wins in a Row

Having made it to the main draw of this event with a couple of straight-set wins in the qualifiers, Jarry has continued to exhibit the same form in the first three rounds here that he had in those matches.

Jarry, who had routed Lorenzo Musetti and Pedro Martinez in the first couple of matches, stunned Cordoba Open winner Sebastian Baez to make it five straight-set wins in a row in this tournament.

In a match lasting an hour and 43 minutes, Jarry registered a 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory over his Argentine opponent to make it to the semifinal.

Six aces and three breaks of serves punctuated his effort but he did drop his own serve twice too from only the three opportunities that came for Baez. Jarry’s first serves saw him win a whopping 85% of those points, as compared to Baez’s corresponding figure of a mere 60%.

Against Alcaraz, things might get a lot more difficult for Jarry than they have been all tournament but he looks like he has the game to withstand the world number two’s fury.

Alcaraz v Jarry Prediction and Tip

The gap between these two players is far too much on rankings but it might not be that one-sided a match given how well Jarry has played all tournament. We could see one of the sets even get to a tie-breaker.
