This will be a first meeting between the two.

Huesler on Three-Match Losing Streak

Marc-Andrea Huesler’s recent form hasn’t been good. The 26-year-old Swiss had a decent start to the season but he is currently on a three-match losing streak.

He will be desperate to return to winning ways in Dubai.

Huesler’s last win came in the first round in Montpellier, when the world no. 48 defeated 18-year-old Luca Van Assche. Since then he has lost six sets in a row. Huesler went down to Holger Rune in the second round in Montpellier and then made back-to-back first round exits from Rotterdam and Marseille, losing to Gijs Brouwer and  Gregoire Barrere respectively.

Overall Huesler is 6-5 this season. He won both his matches at the United Cup and won both his singles matches in Davis Cup against Germany. He also won a match in Adelaide-2.

The Swiss, who won his maiden ATP title at the Sofia Open last year, will be making his debut in Dubai.

Sonego Struggling With Form

Lorenzo Sonego will be making his second appearance in Dubai. The Italian reached the round of 16 on his debut in 2021.

The 27-year-old has not been in good form this year, and has won just three of his nine matches so far.

Sonego’s first win of the season came in the first round of the Australian Open against Nuno Borges. His other two wins came in Montpellier, where he beat Benjamin Bonzi and Filip Krajinovic respectively to reach his only quarterfinal of the season. However, Jannik Sinner ended his run in the tournament with a straight sets defeat.

Since then Huesler has lost two more matches; so like Huesler, he too is on a three-match losing streak.

In his last two matches, Sonego went down to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the opening round in Rotterdam and to Andy Murray in the first round in Doha. Sonego had won the first set against Murray, but he missed out on three match points in the final set before going down in three.

It will be interesting to see he get some consistency in his game in Dubai.

Huesler v Sonego Prediction and Tip

Although Sonego is ranked lower than Huesler, his recent form is a bit better than the Swiss. He is also the more experienced of the two and has won three ATP titles from five finals. Expect this contest to go the distance with Sonego edging past the Swiss.
