Hubert Hurkacz v Benjamin Bonzi Head to Head

This is their first meeting at the tour level. They met once at a lower level with Hurkacz winning in straight sets in Brest in 2018.

Hurkacz Tops Bublik

Top seed Hubert Hurkacz reached his seventh ATP final on Saturday as he knocked out Alexander Bublik in an entertaining semifinal match.

The world no. 11 Hurkacz struck 22 aces to Bublik’s 12 and didn’t double fault in the match. He also won 82 percent (41 of 50) of points behind his first delivery to take the one-hour-and-35-minute contest 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

The Pole, who has won five career titles from six finals, featured in two finals last year. He triumphed on the grass in Halle last June, but finished runner-up in his maiden Masters 1000 final at the Canadian Open.

Both Hurkacz and Bublik were engaged in creative shotmaking. In the end Hurkacz was rewarded for winning the key moments. He saved all the three break points that he faced and converted 1 of 9 that he held.

This was the first straight sets win for Hurkacz in the tournament. He had to rally from a set down to beat Leandro Riedi in the round of 16, while in the quarterfinal, he had to save a match point in the deciding set tiebreak to fend off Mikael Ymer.

Hurkacz is 9-4 this year and it’s the first time he has gone past the Round of 16. Can he cap off the week by winning his sixth career title?

Bonzi Into Season’s Second Final

France’s Benjamin Bonzi knocked out compatriot Arthur Fils in the semifinal in Marseille to reach an ATP final for the second time in two months.

The world no. 60, who had never made it to a final prior to this season, had reached the championship match at the Maharashtra Open in Pune, India in January. But he couldn’t capture the title, going down in three sets to Tallon Griekspoor.

A month later, Bonzi has a second chance to win his maiden ATP title and he deserves to be in the final after playing some exceptional tennis through the week in Marseille.

Bonzi started with a straight sets win over fellow Frenchman Luca Van Assche in the first round and then upset a couple of seeds to keep moving ahead in the tournament. First, it was the fifth seed Maxime Cressy, who was edged out by Bonzi in a three-set thriller and then the Frenchman powered past the third seed Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinal.

In the semifinal on Saturday, Bonzi saved the only break point that he faced against Fils and converted 2 of 9 to win the one-hour-and-25-minute contest 6-4, 6-4.

Bonzi, who also featured in the third round of the Australian Open, is 10-6 this year. Can he pull off a shock win in the final on Sunday?

Hurkacz v Bonzi Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz is the more experienced of the two, particularly in finals. The world no. 11 knows how to absorb the pressure on big occasions and is expected to win the title clash on Sunday.
