Alycia Parks v Mirjam Bjorklund Head to Head

This will be the first career meeting between Parks and Bjorklund.

Parks Falls to Shock Loss in Merida

Alycia Parks has a poor week in Merida, Mexico, losing in the second round to Rebecca Peterson in straight sets, meaning it is now one win in her last three matches.

Truthfully, the American struggled to get going this past week and could have fallen to the wild card Contreras Gomez in the first round had the Mexican been a little more clinical in her shots.

With the tournament being played at sea level and not at a higher altitude, Parks never found her range and never adapted to the slow, high-bouncing balls which kept coming back and drew plenty of errors.

The 22-year-old, has at least, a tournament on home soil to return to winning ways.  The inaugural ATX Open in Austin, Texas, has plenty of American presence in the draw and Parks will be a contender at the WTA 250 tournament which kicks off on Monday with main draw action.

Bjorklund Earns Wild Card

Mirjam Bjorklund is the lone non-American wild card in Austin. She had previously won a W25 ITF tournament in Austin a couple of years ago, which in all likelihood convinced the tournament organizers to hand her a wild card into the main draw of the inaugural Tour-level tournament.

This will be just her second main draw appearance at WTA level this season after sneaking into the draw in Hua Hin earlier this month so late following a spate of withdrawals.

Bjorklund has played 14 times in all at Tour level, winning five matches and losing nine times. Her best run thus far remains the quarterfinal in Bogota last year.

Bjorklund hasn’t played since losing to Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round of qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Open.

Parks v Bjorklund Prediction and Tip

Since winning Lyon, Parks has not found her rhythm. But she should be fine here against an opponent who rarely plays peak tennis on hard courts.
