Collins Loses Ground in the Rankings

It is now one win in the last five matches for Danielle Collins who has since slipped to world No. 40. Collins’ failure to defend her Australian Open runner-up points from last year saw her lose almost 30 spots.

The American did make a fine start to the campaign by reaching the quarterfinal in Adelaide 2. But things have gone from bad to worse in recent weeks.

Defeat to Czech teenager Linda Fruhvirtova came abit as a shock consierint aht Fruhvirotva had seen very little of match play in recent weeks.

Now Collins will return to North America for a very importnant stretch. She will be one of the favorites to win the inaugrueal ATX Open in Austin, but will need a considerable improvement in her performances this week.

First Main Draw of the Year for Frech

It is not only Danielle Collins who has struggled to play her best tennis this year, but Poland’s Magdalena Frech is treading a similar path.

In fact, Frech is yet to play a main draw match in 2023, losing in the qualifying round of all six tournaments she has played in prior to the ATX Open.

But in a slightly softer draw for a WTA 250, most players ranked outside the top 100 have got a direct entry into the main draw. And with the 25-year-old hovering just outside the top 100, she has earned a rare main draw spot for the first time since October.

Frech recorded 11 of her 26 career wins on the WTA Tour in 2022, beating names such as Petra Kvitova, Qinwen Zheng and Yulia Putintseva. So, Collins won’t be treating this match as a cakewalk.

Collins v Frech Prediction and Tip

Collins needed a third-set tiebreak to beat Frech in a Billie Jean King Cup rubber last year. And with the American in the midst of a mini-slump in 2023, victory won’t come easy.
