Hubert Hurkacz v Alexander Shevchenko Head to Head

Hurkacz and Shevchenko have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Hurkacz Wins at Marseille to Turn Things Around

Before going into the Marseille Open last week, Hurkacz didn’t look like he was in the best of nicks.

He had won six of the 10 matches he had played, with those four losses coming to high-quality opponents but with the Polish number one wanting to climb up the rankings charts he would have wanted to register wins over some of those too.

Those defeats for Hurkacz came to Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz, Grigor Dimitrov and Sebastian Korda.

The good news for Hurkacz is those losses did not put a dent on his confidence coming into the Marseille Open where he followed up his first round bye with four successive wins and a title victory.

He has a good chance of making it five in five here.

Shevchenko Replaces Murray

Shevchenko wasn’t supposed to be a part of the main draw. Not only had the world number 119 lost his second qualifying round match to Pavel Kotov, he had had to retire from it because of fitness woes.

As it turned out, Andy Murray opted out of the competition after having made it to the final of the Qatar Open the previous week and Shevchenko was allowed to replace him in the draw. It remains to be seen whether he has had enough time to shrug off his fitness concerns though.

It’s still early days in Shevchenko’s career but it must be quickly said here he is yet to win a main draw match at the highest level. The two-time Challenger winner has played in three such matches in his career but lost each of them.

This will be his first main draw match of the season too but with Hurkacz being in the kind of form that he is, it’s hard to see Shevchenko adding another one to his tally in this very tournament.

Hurkacz v Shevchenko Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz could be in line for an easy, straight-set win in a match that barely sees any time spent on it.
