After making a modest start to the season with a semifinal appearance at the Adelaide International and a third round exit at the Australian Open, Medvedev looks to have rediscovered his lost rhythm.
Medvedev returned to competitive tennis following his defeat to Sebastian Korda in the Australian Open, featuring in the Rotterdam Open and ATP Doha over the last two weeks. And he has won them both.
And it’s not like he has been aided in any way by the draw at those tournaments.
At Rotterdam specially, Medvedev needed to overcome Felix Auger-Aliassime, Grigor Dimitrov and Jannik Sinner in his final three rounds to lift that trophy. He followed that up with another victory over Auger-Aliassime in Doha before getting past the fighting Andy Murray in the final.
He should have no worries in the opener here against a lucky loser.

Arnaldi Lucky to Qualify after Horrendous Loss
Arnaldi has been more known for his performances on the Challenger circuit having failed to qualify for the Australian Open and the Qatar Open. And he was on the verge of another qualifying ouster when he lost to Tomas Machac in the second qualifier here, winning just one game in that match.
Sure, Arnaldi wasn’t quite the favourite going into that match but to fall to such an easy defeat would have been morale-sapping. The good news for him is he still managed to qualify for the main draw as a lucky loser following a few withdrawals from the competition.
The Italian player will hope to take confidence from the title he won at the Tenerife Challenger earlier this season. It was his second tournament win on that circuit.
Unfortunately for Arnaldi, he will be up against the might of Medvedev and as ‘lucky’ as he’s got in making it to the main draw, that could well end now.
