Elias Ymer v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head

They played twice so far and Berrettini won both matches. He is 4-0 in sets against the Swede and on two different surfaces two. The most recent happened in the Davis Cup last year.

Huge Win Over Mannarino for Ymer

Beating Mannarino is not easy but the win was a huge one for Ymer. He’s in need of wins like that so his confidence can improve because the talent was always there. It’s unlikely that he’ll ever be as good as his brother but he’s certainly good enough to be ranked in the top 100 consistently.

It was a comeback win as well and he relied on his fitness quite a bit in this one. The speed was crucial as he was able to keep the ball in play long enough for Mannarino to get frustrated.

He can use the same weapons against Berrettini who is a good mover for his size but not as quick as Ymer. A lot will depend on how he serves and hits the ball because he’ll need to be more aggressive in this one. The forehand is a major weapon of the Italian and he’ll need to find a way to counter it.

He’s yet to find a solution for Berrettini but they never played in conditions like those so perhaps that might help him a bit. He has more chances than if they played on grass, that’s for sure.

Berrettini Impresses in R1

Matteo Berrettini impressed many in his short stay on the court in R1. The Italian served a bagel to Molcan after which he retired.

It was an impressive display of tennis even though he was greatly helped by Molcan who was all over the place. Acapulco is a decent place for the Italian. He was here last year but he was the one who retired with an injury. This year he’s healthy and looks set for a deep run.

The court speed and the conditions give him plenty of time to set up his forehand and that’s what makes him so difficult to play here. The serve does a nice job of creating many short balls that he can use to finish off points quickly which he loves.

He should be flying high on confidence after that good start and having a 2-0 H2H against Ymer certainly won’t shake it.

Berrettini v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Elias Ymer is a decent player but he’ll have some trouble here. There is only so much he can do on the court and I don’t see him finding a remedy for the forehand of Berrettini. We could see a close one but Berrettini will ultimately prevail.
