Lin Zhu v Rebecca Marino Head to Head
Zhu leads the rivalry 2-1. They were 1-1 last year from their meetings in Irapuato and Miami. Zhu however got her nose in front with a win at the Australian Open this year.

World no. 41 Lin Zhu took down Anna Bondar in a tough first round contest on Monday.
Zhu started off well, building a 5-2 lead, thanks to a double break. But she could not close out the set as Bondar pulled a break back. However, Zhu made sure she protected the other break, as she closed out the set 6-4.
In the second set, it was Bondar who went up 0-2, however Zhu came back to draw level and then both held serves for the rest of the set to force the tiebreak. It was a closely contested tiebreak with just one minibreak deciding the fate of the contest. Zhu eventually won the match 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) to advance into the second round.
Thanks to the win, the Chinese is now 11-4 in 2023. She has been brilliant from the start of the season, reaching the last eight in Auckland, the fourth round of the Australian Open and then claiming her maiden WTA title in Hua Hin by beating Lesia Tsurenko in the final. Only Hobart and Merida are two tournaments where she has failed to register a win this year.

Marino Wins Second Main Draw Match of the Season
World on. 74 Rebecca Marino had to sweat it out in the first round but she did just enough to hold off local hope Fernanda Contreras Gomez.
The Canadian threw away two set points in the first set, before making up for that in the ensuing tiebreak. She then got an early break in the second set, but could not serve out the match at 5-4, with the Mexican wild card breaking to stay in the contest. However, once again it was Marino who dominated the tiebreak to seal the one hour and 40 minute contest 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4).
The win was Marino’s 8th of the season but only her second in a main draw of a tour-level event.
Marino had beaten Dalma Galfi in the opening round in Auckland, but since then lost her opening round matches in Hobart, the Australian Open, Abu Dhabi Open and the Qatar Open. She had won all her qualifying round matches in the last two though.
