Alex de Minaur v Taro Daniel Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2018 US Open and de Minaur had dropped just three games in his win there.

de Minaur Ends Berrettini’s Fairy Tale

Jacopo Berrettini is ranked outside the top 800 and for him to come through the qualifiers and make the main draw was a dream come true in itself. For him to then shock Oscar Otte in the first round despite going into the encounter at 13/1 to win it.

De Minaur put an end to this fairy tale with much ease.

The Aussie carved out a 6-1, 6-0 win in a mere 62 minutes to proceed into the quarterfinal, breaking Berrettini five of the six times he had a chance. In turn, de Minaur also faced a break-point off his own serve but easily saved it.

De Minaur had earlier dropped just three games in his first round drubbing of Rodrigo Pecheco Mendez.

The opposition quality will rise a tad now but de Minaur looks like he has things covered here.

Daniel Shocks Ruud in Three

It’s been a forgettable season for Casper Ruud and Daniel ensured it would continue to remain the same for the Norwegian number one.

The world number 125 had come into the match at 5/2 odds to complete a shock win and nearly three hours later, he had done exactly that against the world number four.

Daniel overcame a 3-0 deficit in the first set and shrugged off two match-points in the third before clinching the encounter off his first match-point. He won 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (5) to enter the last eight.

Before coming into this tournament, Daniel had won just one main draw encounter all season. He has now tripled his count but against a well-entrenched de Minaur things could get a lot tougher.

de Minaur v Daniel Prediction and Tip

De Minaur has had a good time against very low-ranked players but while Daniel should prove to be tougher than the others, it should still be a straightforward win for the Aussie.
