Anna-Lena Friedsam v Erika Andreeva Head to Head

It is 1-0 to Andreeva; they last met in the 2022 ITF Altenkirchen where the youngster won in straight sets.

Friedsam Moves Past Yastremska

Anna-Lena Friedam of Germany started her campaign in Austin with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Dayana Yastremska. The match lasted for 80 minutes and saw the 29-year-old win by a slim margin in an affair that was on even grounds for the most part.

What got Friedsam through was a superior service game and of course, the confidence she generated from her resounding success in Linz last month.

Before coming to the states, the 108th-ranked player competed in the Linz Open where she reached the quarterfinal – starting as a qualifier. On the doubles side, she emerged as the runner-up with Nadiia Kichenok.

Up until then, Anna-Lena had struggled a lot to deliver results, seeing that her campaign ended in qualifying losses in Lyon and Melbourne.

Andreeva Survives Dart

18-year-old Erika Andreeva was put to a stern test in the ATX Open opener against Harriet Dart. The match went on for three and a half hours and saw the Russian win 7-6(4), 3-6, 7-6(3).

It was not the best of the performances from the youngster, seeing that she had an inferior first-service win rate compared to Dart. She was also on the verge of getting her service broken far more times than the Brit.

Nonetheless, a win is a win and Andreeva has now registered her first proper WTA win of the 2023 season. Having started as a qualifier here, she beat Xiaodi You and Ashlyn Krueger to clear the prelims.

Prior to this, Erika participated in the events in Merida, Lyon, and Melbourne – along with a couple of ITF events – but with little success.

Andreeva v Friedsam Prediction and Tip

Friedsam is the clear favourite here owing to her experience and a superior pedigree. She is also in decent form, but it is far from perfect. Andreeva can surprise the German, but it will take a more disciplined game from her this time. Expect a cracking affair.
