Donna Vekic v Ysaline Bonaventure Head to Head

There have been two main draw matches and one in the qualifiers of a tournament between these two players and Bonaventure leads 2-1. Both her wins came in the 2018-19 period.

Vekic Continues to Win

In what was her 13th match of the season, Vekic registered her 11th win to move into the quarterfinal stage. Add a couple more victories at the Kooyong Exhibition competition and she has been in some form this season.

What that has also done is propel her ranking up to 31st in the world before the start of this tournament. And if she can find a way to win this encounter, Vekic could well be knocking on the doors of a top-25 spot again.

This is the same player who was ranked 112th in the world about 12 months ago. She started this season ranked 67th and has continued to roll.

Her latest victory came against Emma Navarro whom she defeated 6-3, 6-2 to make it to the last eight. Can she make it three in a row to enter her first semifinal of the season?

Bonaventure Needs Three Sets against Rakhimova

It was a battling win for Bonaventure but a rare win alright as she made it successive main draw victories for the first time since having made it to the semifinal at the Auckland Open at the start of this season.

Bonaventure was taken to an opening set tie-breaker by Kamila Rakhimova, the second successive time in this tournament she had to fight to win the opening set. And she dropped the second before finding a way to come back and shock her Russian opponent.

This was after Bonaventure began the match at 13/10 odds to win the encounter.

Interestingly, the two hour, five minutes long match saw Bonaventure break her opponent three times while herself facing 12 break-points and dropping serve on four occasions. And yet, she held her nerve when it really mattered to come through for a victory.

Can the world number 96 now put up a show against Vekic?

Vekic v Bonaventure Prediction and Tip

No surprises that Vekic is a favourite here with odds of 1/4 for her win. While that also seems to suggest it should be a straightforward win, what Bonaventure has done well all tournament is to put up a brave front and not give up too easily. That could be a factor here.
