Albert Ramos Vinolas v Alex Molcan Head to Head

This will be the first career meeting between Albert Ramos Vinolas and Alex Molcan. The costly defeats came on the red clay in South America where the Spaniard was defending 250 points in Cordoba (2022 champion) and semifinalist points in Santiago.

Ramos Vinolas lost in the last four in Cordoba to Federico Coria, while in Santiago he came unstuck against power-hitting Thiago Monteiro at the first hurdle.

Those results have pushed the Spaniard on the precipice of a top-50 exit, one which could now mean the Spaniard will have to qualify for most ATP tournaments outside the 250s.

On a bright note, the 35-year-old won’t be defending any points in North America this month. He pulled out from the Indian Wells Masters last season, after a draining schedule in South America.

Molcan In Dire Form

Alex Molcan has also struggled big time this season. He has conjured up two wins in 2023. The first one was perhaps notable, with Molcan outlasting Stan Wawrinka in a five-set marathon in the first round of the Australian.

As for his second, it came against 16-year-old Brazilian wild card Joao Fonseca at the Rio Open. Molcan defeated him so convincingly for the loss of three games.

Molcan’s most recent ATP tournament cast injury doubt on his participation in Indian Wells. He retired while trailing 0-6 0-1 in Acapulco against Matteo Berrettini.

The 25-year-old is playing the Sunshine Swing for the first time, and with a huge question mark regarding his wrist, maybe Molcan’s dire form will continue.

Ramos Vinolas v Molcan Prediction and Tip

The hard courts in Indian Wells are the closest thing to the clay. So these conditions should suit both Ramos Vinolas and Alex Molcan. Expect a slugfest on a hard court with the Spaniard just edging it.
