Iga Swiatek v Claire Liu Head to Head
There has been one previous meeting between these two players and it came in the qualifiers of the 2019 Auckland where Swiatek won in three sets.

It was the kind of year last season for Swiatek that only the best have and not many times in their careers either. The likes of Serena Williams and Steffi Graf are two who come to mind over the last three decades with performances as good or better than Swiatek’s last year.
Swiatek has started off reasonably well this year but has just one WTA title under her belt so far.
She could well have won her second tournament for the season as she raced past a plethora of opponents in Dubai but was stunned in the final by Barbora Krejcikova. This was despite Krejcikova starting off as an 11/2 underdog in that match.
To be fair to Swiatek, her two other losses this season have come against Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula, two high-quality players. She would have gone in expecting to win them and that is testimony to the kind of performances she has dished out in the past.
Against a player ranked outside the top 50, there shouldn’t be too many worries though.

Liu Skips Over Schmiedlova
It took Liu nearly two hours but she made it past Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in straight sets to make it to the second round of this competition for the second season in a row.
Liu won 7-6 (5), 6-3 despite dropping her twice in the encounter. In turn, she broke Schmiedlova on three occasions, including once when she was down 3-5 in the first set.
What made the win even more special was not just that Schmiedlova served for the first set at one point, she was also 5-1 ahead in the tie-breaker. Liu went on to win the next six points in a row to clinch the set.
The world number 56 dropped her serve once again in the second set to fall 0-2 behind. A break back followed in the fourth game before a second one in the eighth allowed Liu to close it out in the following game.
This was Liu’s third main draw win of the season, having played seven tournaments so far. She will hope to put up a brave front against the world number one.
Swiatek v Liu Prediction and Tip
Swiatek is 1/20 to win this which isn’t too much of a surprise. A straight-set win without dropping more than five games looks to be par for the course for Swiatek here.
