Petra Martic v Varvara Gracheva Head to Head
They played plenty of times in the past with 5 previous matches. Martic won all five of them including the most recent one last year at the US Open. She bested her on all surfaces too.

The previous two times Martic stood on a tennis court were losses for the Croatian which means she’ll be looking to snap a losing streak in Indian Wells. It’s an event where she played decently in the past reaching the quarter-final last year.
I don’t think she’ll repeat it because her draw last year was really good and it’s a bit trickier but she’ll face a player she dominated in the past so that’s a good start. Martic had some good moments this year and as a clay court specialist, she can play well on slower hard courts.
The serve is another weapon that will be very crucial for this matchup. If she can serve well and if she can counter Gracheva in rallies she’ll be in a good position to win.
Martic was able to do that in all of their previous matches which is why she’s 5-0 against her. This will be the best version she’s yet faced so she will need to find her best tennis in order to move on.

Superb Tennis From Gracheva Lately
Varvara Gracheva has been playing really strong tennis this year as she’s up to 14 wins already. She only has 5 losses so it seems like this is a time when she’s playing some of the best tennis she played. Austin was really good for her because she made it to the final losing to Kostyuk.
The Russian is generally a very strong clay player but she plays really similarly on hard courts. Pretty aggressive in her attacking play which makes her very dangerous but also prone to committing a lot of errors. It’s not the best way to attack Martic because you need to pick and choose your spots carefully.
The loss in Austin didn’t affect her badly because she cruised through the qualifiers beating two very strong players. She’ll be hoping that momentum carries her over Martic because it would be the first time she would defeat the Croatian.
She’ll need to keep the errors at a minimum and keep her serve.
Martic v Gracheva Prediction and Tip
I will side with Petra Martic in this one because she’s defeated her opponent five times in a row. Yet to lose a match to her and Indian Wells suits her well with a quarter-final in the past. Enough for me but I would not blindly recommend it.
