Caroline Garcia v Dalma Galfi Head to Head

It’s been three years in a row that Garcia has been knocked out of the Indian Wells Open in the second round itself. This will be her chance to improve upon that showing and try and emulate her previous best in this competition – a fourth round showing in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
And this will be a good chance for Garcia to do that too having earned herself a first round bye and now facing a player who hasn’t done too much of note in her career. Especially not when you consider how Garcia has come back from being ranked outside the top 70 to her current ranking of number five in the world.
Garcia has already made it to two WTA finals this season too.
Her first such performance came at the Lyon Open where she went down to Alycia Parks in the final. More recently, Garcia also made the title-decider in Monterrey last week only to lose to Donna Vekic.
Either ways, those performances have kept her in the top five because things could go south very quickly if she isn’t careful given the number of points she will soon have to defend from those four titles she won last season.

Lucky Loser Galfi Shocks Collins
Galfi’s previous best performance in a WTA 1000 tournament was a second round appearance at the Miami Open last season. And when she fell in the second round of the qualifiers in this tournament, it looked like she would have to wait before emulating that record.
Instead she earned herself a place in the main draw here as a lucky loser following the withdrawal of Zheng Qinwen.
Again, not too much was expected of her as she took on the might of Danielle Collins, who was the 2022 Australian Open finalist and was coming off a semifinal appearance at the Austin Open last week. She was also a 1/8 favourite in the match.
Galfi hadn’t read the script by the looks of things.
She came through with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Collins in a match that lasted an hour and 39 minutes to seal her second round berth.
And while the challenge now becomes even tougher, Galfi will have some confidence under her back. Can she pull off a second big upset of the competition?

Garcia will know what Galfi is capable of having seen her deliver a solid result against Collins and will avoid getting complacent. Expect the Frenchwoman to come through in straight sets.
