Paula Badosa v Nuria Parrizas Diaz Head to Head
While they haven’t faced off on the WTA circuit their one previous meeting came on the ITF tour in 2013 which Badosa had won in straight sets.

She had hit a career-high ranking of number two in the world as recently as last season but a combination of poor form and fitness issues have resulted in Badosa falling to 22nd at the moment.
And she will need to arrest her losing slide quickly or face a realistic chance of dropping out of the top 30 or even top 40 in the immediate future.
That’s because the Spaniard was a semifinalist at this tournament last season and made the quarterfinal in the Miami Open. If she is unable to defend all those points a drastic fall in the rankings looks a certain possibility by the start of the clay court swing.
Badosa enters this tournament on the back of successive defeats in Doha and Dubai but the point to be noted here is she was drawn to face Beatriz Haddad Maia and Liudmilla Samsonova in those openers. This is a far easier second round match.

Parrizas Diaz Stuns Cocciaretto
Elisabetta Cocciaretto is a fast-improving tennis player who is climbing up the rankings chart rather quickly. Which is also why she had gone into her first round match against Parrizas Diaz as a heavy favourite.
Instead, it was Parrizas Diaz who came through in their opener and did so in straight sets to seal her second round encounter with Badosa.
Parrizas Diaz, who had won just two of her previous seven matches, registered a 6-3, 7-5 victory over the 9/20 favourite Cocciaretto. The match lasted an hour and 45 minutes.
Where Parrizas Diaz scored over her opponent was dealing with her first serves, and in turn earning herself 17 break-points in the encounter. While she converted only four of those, that was enough to overturn the two times she lost her own serve.
Against Badosa, Parrizas Diaz can expect better serving but as far as confidence goes, she would be in a much better space than her opponent.
