Ons Jabeur v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head

Jabeur leads the rivalry 3-2, but it was Vondrousova who won the most recent matchup at this year’s Australian Open, shocking the Tunisian in the second round of the first major.

Jabeur Rallies Past Frech

Playing for the first time since her second round exit from the Australian Open, Ons Jabeur made a winning return as she scored a comeback win over Poland’s Magdalena Frech in the second round of the Indian Wells Open.

The fourth seed, who underwent a minor knee surgery following the first Grand Slam, lost the first set as it finished with three consecutive breaks of serve with Frech getting two of them.

In the second, both traded a break early but Jabeur got another break late in the set to draw level. It was all Jabeur from that point on and she broke the world no. 106 thrice in the final set to complete a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory in an hour and 44 minutes.

The world no. 4 is 4-2 in 2023. She was a semifinalist in Adelaide but lost in the second round at the Australian Open in her only other tournament prior to Indian Wells.

The three-time tour level champion is making her fifth appearance in the tournament. Her best was a semifinal finish in 2021.

Vondrousova Routs Bouzkova

After making quick work of Rebecca Marino in the first round, Marketa Vondrousova scored another emphatic win on Saturday to beat Marie Bouzková and sail into the third round of the tournament.

The Czech, ranked no. 105th in the world, won 82% points on the back of her first serve. She did not face a single break point, but converted 5 of 14 to hand the 28th seed compatriot a 6-1, 6-1 shellacking.

The lefty was equally dominant in the first round against the Canadian. She did not face a break point in that match either, while she converted half of eight to beat the world no. 75, 6-2, 6-2.

With the two wins Vondrousova is now 9-4 for the season. She didn’t play a lot of tennis last year as a wrist surgery kept her out of action.

But this year, the former French Open finalist is back on the tour. She made gains in the rankings following a bright start, which included a last eight finish in Adelaide and a semifinal finish in Linz, but once again fell out of the top 100, following a first round exit in Dubai.

Having begun well in Indian Wells, she will now hope to build on the start.

Jabeur v Vondrousova Prediction and Tip

The last time they played Jabeur went down in three. She will have revenge on her mind this time. Vondrousova has played a lot more than Jabeur this year, and that might work to her advantage, but Jabeur is the more accomplished player in this battle and she should eventually come out on top.
