Iga Swiatek v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 Australian Open and Swiatek had won that in three sets.

Swiatek Quells the Raducanu Challenge

Emma Raducanu would have known she was always up against it when she faced Swiatek and while she started off reasonably well, the world number one grabbed control of the encounter quickly after that.

Swiatek was on court for an hour and 25 minutes in the end for her 6-3, 6-1 victory over her Brit opponent.

Following on from a rather battling win – at least by her own lofty standards – against Bianca Andreescu, Swiatek looked like she was in another battle as she faced a couple of break-points in the third game of the opening set.

The first five games went on serve too but all that it needed for Swiatek to drive that wedge between her and Raducanu was a break of serve. And once she did that in the sixth game, there was no looking back.

From that point on, Swiatek won seven of the next nine games. Such was her dominance on serve that Swiatek dropped just four points on it.

She will now be vying for the semifinal spot for the second time in a row at the Indian Wells Open.

Cirstea Shocks Garcia

Despite starting out as an 11/5 underdog coming into her fourth round match against the world number five Caroline Garcia, Cirstea found a way past her opponent and entered the quarterfinal in Indian Wells for the first time in her career.

Cirstea needed two hours and 24 minutes for her 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 victory, overcoming five breaks of her serve which included a late comeback from Garcia. At one stage, Cirstea was 3-0 up in the decider with two breaks of serves and was then serving for a 5-3 lead.

Garcia broke back to level things out at 5-5 but afforded Cirstea a break-point she converted with ease. A few minutes later, Cirstea had served out for the match to 15.

Rather interestingly, Cirstea had entered the tournament on the back of two main draw victories from six previous competitions this season. She has won four in a row here.

A fifth, however, seems to be a bridge too far.

Swiatek v Cirstea Prediction and Tip

Not only is Swiatek a favourite but you look at what’s on offer for the games handicap market and you would know the overwhelming nature of it. Expect this to be a one-sided encounter despite Cirstea hoping she can put up the kind of fight she had in their only previous meeting last year.
