Carlos Alcaraz v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

There have been four top-level matches played between these two and it’s 2-2 on head to head. The last of these matches came at the 2022 US Open where in a quarterfinal epic, Alcaraz managed to come back from two sets to one down to win the match.

Alcaraz Makes it 12-1 after Auger-Aliassime Win

After Alcaraz had lost to Cameron Norrie in the final of the Rio Open earlier this season, there were question-marks about his fitness and the feasibility about his participation in the Indian Wells Open.

Not only has Alcaraz managed to come back to featuring on court, he has done it in fine style, winning four matches in a row without dropping a set.

And the latest of his victims was Felix Auger-Aliassime, whom he blew away from the court winning 6-4, 6-4. The match went on for two hours and saw some powerful hitting from both players but it was Alcaraz who never lost control of the encounter.

Alcaraz earned himself a break off the sixth break-point he got in the first set which is all he needed to win it. In the second, the Spaniard went up a break in the very first game but lost his own serve in the second.

This was followed by both players holding on to their serves before Alcaraz made an incisive break in the ninth game. Soon after he had earned himself his first match-point and he converted that to make it two semifinals in a row at this tournament.

Sinner Quells Fritz Challenge

Taylor Fritz had come into the match as the defending champion but always knew he wouldn’t have it too easy. Sinner is one of the most disciplined players out on the circuit and had entered this quarterfinal on a 15-2 win-loss record for the season.

And while the battle turned out to be a close one, it was Sinner who clinched his 16th win of the year with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory over his American opponent. The match lasted two hours and 19 minutes.

The first set turned out to be a clinical affair with Sinner getting a break-point in the very first game and converting it. He faced one break-point off his own serve which he saved and went on to win it on the basis of that opening break.

Fritz dropped just four points off his own serve in the second set and when he got his first and only chance to break Sinner in the 10th game, he grabbed it with both hands to level the proceedings.

The duo traded breaks early in the third set to take it to 4-4. At this stage, Sinner upped the ante and got the better of the Fritz serve before serving it out to love to claim his semifinal berth.

This follows straight-set wins for Sinner over Richard Gasquet, Adrian Mannarino and Stan Wawrinka.

Can he now clinch his biggest win of the season?

Alcaraz v Sinner Prediction and Tip

While Alcaraz is a 1/2 favourite here, we can expect Sinner to put up a strong defensive showing and come up with something special as well. A hard-fought encounter in the offing.
