Felix Auger-Aliassime v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Auger-Aliassime had won them both.

The first came at the 2020 US Open where the Canadian needed four sets including three tie-breakers to get past his opponent while beating him in straight sets at the 2021 Wimbledon.

Auger-Aliassime Coming off Indian Wells Quarterfinals

At two of the biggest tournaments of the season so far, the Australian Open in January and in Indian Wells last week, Auger-Aliassime looked to be on a bit of a roll before meeting his match.

Those were the only two occasions where Auger-Aliassime won three matches in a row, making it to the fourth round in Melbourne and the quarterfinals at the Indian Wells Open.

Losing to Jiri Lehecka at the former would have been a bitter pill to swallow but last week, he ended up meeting Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals and like most other players on the circuit, had no answer to his opponent’s powerful tennis.

Auger-Aliassime resumes in Miami with a straightforward second round encounter. It’s in the later stages that he will have to up the ante.

Monteiro Sends Kubler Out

He was a 21/10 underdog coming into his opening round match against Jason Kubler but Monteiro played some excellent tennis to overcome his Aussie opponent in straight sets.

In a match that was separated by just one break-point, Monteiro registered a 6-4, 7-6 (6) victory over his 70th-ranked opponent with the encounter lasting an hour and 42 minutes.

With some extremely high-percentage serving in the encounter, neither player found it easy to get past the other’s serve. In fact, other than the seventh game of the first set where Monteiro earned the only break of the match, only one game went to 30.

The second set had just two deuces from the 12 games on show, but again no breaks to go with it.

Monteiro ran off to a 6-1 lead in the tie-breaker that followed, lost five points in a row and finally completed the win by clinching the next two points. He will need to serve as well against Auger-Aliassime to have any chances.

Auger-Aliassime v Monteiro Prediction and Tip

This seems to be a fairly straightforward tie for Auger-Aliassime who can be expected to win it in straight sets.
