Carlos Alcaraz v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these players including two in 2023 itself and Alcaraz has won every single time. In fact, Alcaraz is yet to drop a set against Lajovic.

Alcaraz Crushes Bagnis

Following his title win in Indian Wells and the first round bye, Alcaraz took to court for the first time here at the Miami Masters 2023 for his match against Facundo Bagnis. And as the 1/100 favourite odds indicated it turned out to be a one-sided affair that lasted all of 66 minutes.

But in those 66 minutes, Alcaraz gave another indication how difficult it would be for players, especially the lower-ranked ones, to overcome the Spaniard.

Three breaks of serves in the first set itself helped Alcaraz cruise to a bagel where the world number one did not drop a single point on serve.

It was slightly tougher for Alcaraz in the second set and he even lost his serve once but in the end he broke his opponent three more times to clinch the win.

The kind of form that Alcaraz is in, it looks quite difficult to see lose too many games in this one, let alone the set or match.

Lajovic Surprises Cressy

For the second match in a row, Lajovic had gone in as a second-favourite and for the second time he shocked his opponent. More importantly, for the second match in a row, Lajovic won in straight sets.

Starting out at 13/10 odds to overcome Cressy, Lajovic registered a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win to enter the third round of this competition for the fourth time in his career. That’s his best showing in Miami.

In a match lasting an hour and a half, Lajovic dropped his serve as he came back from 3-5 down in the second set to win it in the ensuing tie-breaker.

This followed his straight-set shock win over Andy Murray in the opener, where he was a 7/2 underdog before the encounter. And a win over Cressy gave him back to back wins in a hardcourt competition for the first time since August 2021.

The chances of three victories in a row, however, look quite bleak.

Alcaraz v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

The bigger question than whether or not Alcaraz will win this is how quickly will he do that. We expect it to be lesser than 18 games in the encounter.
